The Pilot Post: Welcome one and all!

Introductions

Well, well, good evening cyberspace!  Hope all's well with you this evening.  First things first.  Welcome to the River City Two Wheeler, the blog that's all about bike commuting in Richmond, Virginia.  My name is Chris and I am the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, and sole employee of RC2W.  Today my job is to give you a tour of all that is (and more appropriately, all that will be) RC2W.

What's the River City Two Wheeler all about?

Well, it's simple really.  RC2W is all about what it's like to use a bike as a primary means of travel here in our lovely city...we'll share the joys, the fears, the laughs, and the tears that are to be had along the way.  But really my vision for RC2W is larger than that.  I hope that it might one day evolve into a community where everyone living in Richmond interested in bike commuting can come to ask questions, find answers, and meet new people that share similar interests.

Weekly posts will tackle various aspects of bike commuting that come to mind on daily rides.  What's working well for me?  What's not working so well?  What routes feel safest and most comfortable?  These are the kinds of things you might expect.  I'll give you my two cents, maybe you'll find it informative, maybe not.  Regardless, hopefully if I'm doing my job right it'll inspire some (positive) discussion, and maybe help push someone to take the leap to ditch four wheels for two. So poke around, stay a while, and contribute to the discussion if you feel so inclined.

A little bit more about me.

Like I said, my name is Chris.  I'm 25 years old and am currently a graduate student at VCU.  Besides riding my sweet bike, I'm into running (though not competitively), taking pictrues, hanging out with friends, and a computer game called StarCraft.   I technically live in Chester, but I spend a lot of my time at my fiancee's house in the city.  I got the idea to try bike commuting a couple of years ago...I don't really recall exactly why the idea popped into my head, but I do know that the entire concept excites me.  I literally can't wait to hop on my bike in the morning, and I get all frowney-faced when I have to take the car.  And I really get excited about the idea of recruiting other people to the cause.  And that's why I started RC2W.  That, and some encouragement from a friend.
